Week 4: Reflections & Experiential Education

With the midway point of Spring Term approaching, you’ve probably completed the majority of your first academic year.

That means now is a good time to reflect on the past few months and identify at least one excellent experience. It might be a course, an individual class session, a project you completed, a challenge you met, a friendship you made or something related to your living environment.

Whatever the experience, consider how it has affected you and/or prepared you to embrace future opportunities and challenges. Reflection and self-awareness are essential to recognizing personal growth - whether it’s happened or still needs to - as you pursue goals both within and beyond the university.

Also, ask yourself: What activities have you become involved with outside your classes? Oregon State offers opportunities where you can learn beyond the classroom, get involved in the community and have some fun - often all at the same time:

1 Talk with your professors or advisor about opportunities to work on research projects.

2 Visit the Getting Started portal from OSU GO to learn more about Study Abroad options.

3 Contact the Center for Civic Engagement, where you can apply your passion and skills to make the world a better place through service, philanthropy and activism.

4 The office of Student Leadership and Involvement offers many ways to get involved from events, to student organizations, to formal leadership trainings and opportunities.
